Cutie Patootie (CP for short) and I made treats for The Mop today from baby food and wheat flour. The Mop loves them! Cutie Patootie even tried them and said that they didn't taste like anything. I chose to pass. CP has been on a tasting kick and even tried tuna salad today. Go figure. She had me pick out the onions and relish, which was a chore, but she ate some. Now she has on a flower girl dress and a pair of hand-me-down dressy "high heeled" silver sandals. She feels like a princess and had to put make-up on to even out the deal. The Mop was pretty much hanging onto the back of her dress until she got mad. All in a Day!
Here's how we made the treats:
We mixed two jars of BeechNut brand Homestyle Sweet Potato and Chicken baby food with about two cups of whole wheat flour. We had to add a little flour to the dough to roll it and used a small heart cookie cutter 'cause that's all we had. They baked for 15 minutes at 350F and voila!
I found this idea on Pinterest which is my favorite website of all time but I can't remember exactly where. I had to delete the Pin because when I went back to it, an alert came up that it was linked to spam. I remember reading that you can use any baby food but make sure there are no onions or onion salt or powder in the ingredients. I figured we were safe with this one because it only had sweet potatoes, chicken, and water in it. The Mop only gets treats for pottying outside so she only gets them so often. And even though they are small, I break them into three parts so really she might get two to three treats a day depending upon whether she feels like following the rules or not. She would much rather wrestle with Brownie, the kitty, instead of taking time out to pee, but that's a topic left for another post.
Update: I have found that these treats when kept in a closed containter stay soft, but after just a couple days I thought started to stink, so I threw them away. I would keep them in the fridge to keep them fresh and next time, I'm going to cut the recipe in half since it made about 4 dozen cookies.
